After a minor fire damaged this two-bedroom duplex, the City of Iowa City purchased it for remodel and sale through its South District Neighborhood Partnership program. Local students from City and Liberty High Schools completed the renovation. Their work included drywall, interior painting, window replacement, kitchen cabinets, trim and siding installation, and a new deck and storage shed. Through their work, the students learned the fundamentals of home remodeling. Notable energy efficiency improvements: new sprayfoam insulation, low flow aerators, low flow showerheads, a heat pump water heater, LED bulbs, and new Gerkin Energy Star windows.
